| A Cracking Evening |
Torrential rain and high winds failed to weaken the resolve of the hardy folk of Dorchester, as many still turned out for the annual Cracker Evening in the town. Despite the weather the festive fun carried on with the lantern parade going ahead as planned. The weather failed to deter Santa, who turned up in a rick-shaw pulled by the Multivolt reindeer, complete with band of helpers.
Hot food and drink provided by local businesses went down a storm with the crowds as did the entertainment, which came from local musical groups
The County Museum was packed out, thanks to the Sci-Fi exhibition. Children had fun chasing daleks and posing for pictures with Darth Vader
Several shops joined in the festivite frolics, dressing both themselves and their windows. Mayor of Dorchester, Susie Hosford, presented the prizes for the best window display to Medusa. Dorchesters Carnival Queen Leoni Ling presented the prize of the best characters to the staff of Frank Herrings
The climax of the evening was the switching on of the Christmas lights. Town crier Alistair Chisholm gathered the crowds by ringing his bell and handed over to the actor Joel Beckett, former Eastender and star of Weymouth Pantomime who did the honours
A good night was had by all
